Technology is an increasingly important part of how Autistic children learn, communicate, connect with others, and build independence, but it can also introduce new challenges for families to navigate. In this practical webinar, we’ll explore how parents and caregivers can help their children develop healthy digital skills while creating a safer environment to practice independence.
We’ll discuss current trends affecting autistic children online, including impulsivity, gaming and highly engaging content, social cues and online vulnerability, and the growing role technology can play in communication and social connection. Families will leave with practical strategies for starting conversations about online safety, recognizing potential risks, choosing appropriate safeguards, and using tools like monitoring, location sharing, and customizable phone access to support safety without losing sight of independence.
Most importantly, we’ll look at technology not simply as something to restrict, but as a tool families can use intentionally to build skills, confidence, connection, and greater independence over time.

Adam Brooks helps families, schools, and workplaces communicate better across generations and screens. As Program Coordinator and Content Manager for Bark’s Connected Communities, he leads in-person digital safety workshops for students, parents, and educators, helping Bark keep kids safer online. He’s also a speaker, author, and consultant who has trained over 15,000 educators and managers and spoken to more than 32,000 students nationwide, authoring two best-selling mini-books and creating the family card game Drive-A-Logue.
